Is The Formal Living Room Dead?

In Blog by Ron Nathan

This week poses a question- are formal living rooms dead? Do families really want a room in their home that is simply not lived in? A room for formal receptions, our nicest furniture, and the best art doesn’t have to be a room that is ignored or untouched. The home is for living. It’s time to take back the meaning of the name ‘living room’ and spend more time there! But how do we do so? First, keep the furniture comfortable and the fabrics practical and hard wearing. The living room could become a separate family hangout room, adults need a place to do their thing just as kids do. Having separate places to do so could create an ultimately more functional home. The most important aspect is to keep it comfortable and inviting. Make sure there are aspects in the design to draw the family in. If you can accomplish that much, you have answered the question.
